NO CELL, BELL TO BELL

The Cuba-Rushford Central School is committed to creating the best learning environment for all students-and that includes minimizing distractions. This spring, Governor Kathy Hochul signed the “Bell-to-Bell” Cellphone Ban into law as part of New York State’s new Distraction-Free School Law.

Standard Guidelines:

·      To ensure full engagement in learning, students are not permitted to use phones, smartwatches, earbuds, or wireless audio devices during the instructional school day, unless given to the student by the district.

·      If brought to school, all devices must be powered off and stored in student lockers before the school day begins.

·      “Phone Breaks” are not allowed during the school day.

·      The school is not responsible for lost or stolen personal devices.

Daily Procedure:

·      Upon arrival, students are expected to place their phones and devices in their lockers before the instructional day begins. Students are encouraged not to bring their devices to school.

·      Devices must remain off and stored until dismissal.

·      Students may retrieve their devices after the final bell.

·      “School day” means the entirety of every instructional day during all instructional time and non-instructional time, including but not limited to homeroom periods, lunch, recess, study halls, and passing time.

Cuba-Rushford Central School understands that this significant change requires the cooperation and support of all families. The district emphasizes the importance of parents discussing the new rule with their children and encouraging them to embrace it as a positive step toward their academic and personal growth.

It is important to note that any student who does not adhere to the "no cell phone/electronics" policy will be in violation of the District's Student Code of Conduct, with consequences applied accordingly based on the nature of the infraction.
