Dear Cuba-Rushford Parents and Community Members,
Due to ongoing work associated with our capital project, the District will designate Friday, May 22, 2026, as an emergency closure day. This change is necessary to allow for critical work related to our facilities, including the relocation of certain staff to areas outside of active construction zones.
In order to complete this work safely and efficiently, portions of the building and key systems will need to be accessed and, at times, taken offline, making it impractical to operate the school as usual.
While we recognize that changes to the calendar can be inconvenient, especially leading into the Memorial Day weekend, this work is essential to maintaining a safe and organized learning environment as our project progresses. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we continue to invest in the long-term infrastructure of our schools.
There will be no school for students on Friday, May 22, 2026. All after-school activities and events scheduled for that day will be canceled or rescheduled.
Thank you very much.

Carlos Gildemeister

📣 Community Announcement: Capital Project Update 🏗️
We are excited to share that our capital project will begin this May! 🎉 The majority of the construction will take place at the Elementary School.
To ensure student safety and allow continued outdoor activities, Cuba-Rushford will be installing a fence in front of the elementary building. This will allow upper elementary students to continue enjoying recess during construction ✅.
🚧 Please note:
The older students’ playground will be temporarily closed
The outdoor basketball hoop will also be unavailable during construction
We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we work to improve our facilities for students and the community 💙. More updates will be shared as the project progresses!

Friendly reminder from CA Boces. Due to having two over the last month in Cattaraugus County, we felt was a good time to cover tornado safety. Here is how our counties rank by the greatest number of tornados in New York State: Allegany (12), Cattaraugus (10), Chautauqua (3), and Erie (4).

Card Making Class at the CRE
During the month of March, we celebrated students that demonstrated the Character Trait of Honesty. Students that were nominated received recognition from the building, a certificate, and a Character Cookie. We also enjoyed a performance by 5th graders who participated in Character Education, which was led by Mrs. Berardi! We also recognized students that participated in the monthly reading challenge. Students that completed the challenge received a certificate, a PAW, and were able to participate in a Spring Jeopardy Game! Students that completed the bonus question were entered into a drawing to win a gift certificate from Six South, and five lucky students won! Thanks, Six South!

Last week, CRE was fortunate to host a children's author, Kari Lavelle. Kari met with students in Grades PK-1 as well as 2-5 and completed a book signing! Kari specifically shared her passion for reading, writing, and storytelling. Kari Lavelle is the author of a few books, including the popular and engaging Butt or Face? series, a nonfiction collection that explores animal facts in a fun and interactive way.

Welcome to The Rebel Family Forum Podcast with your host, Mary Keesler, District Social Worker. The Rebel Family Forum is a space where we bring our community together to learn, support, and strengthen the families who help our students thrive.
In this episode, we’re exploring implicit bias and what it means in the context of our schools. Implicit bias isn’t about blame—it’s about awareness. These are the unconscious attitudes and assumptions each of us carries, shaped by our experiences, environments, and the world around us. And when we take the time to understand these patterns, we open the door to more equitable, compassionate, and inclusive classrooms.
We’ll look at how equity goes beyond fairness—it’s about ensuring every student has what they need to thrive, recognizing that each learner comes with unique strengths, challenges, and stories. And we’ll talk about inclusion: how we create environments where every child feels seen, valued, and supported, both academically and emotionally.
Joining us is General Art Austin, who will share insights, strategies, and lived experiences that help illuminate the path forward. Together, we’re building a culture rooted in understanding, respect, and a commitment to continuous growth.
So settle in, open your mind, and let’s begin this meaningful conversation.

Hello Rebel Nation,

Welcome to The Rebel Family Forum Podcast with your host, Mary Keesler, District Social Worker. The Rebel Family Forum is a space where we bring our community together to learn, support, and strengthen the families who help our students thrive.
In today’s episode, we’re focusing on foster care and kinship programs—two essential systems that give children safety, stability, and a sense of belonging when they can’t remain at home. We’ll explore what foster care really looks like, how kinship caregivers step up to keep children connected to family, and the resources available to those who open their homes and hearts.
Whether you're a caregiver, an educator, a community member, or simply curious about how these programs work, this conversation will shed light on the challenges, the supports, and the incredible impact caring adults can make in a child’s life.
